The Emerald City Sings! Festival will include two fun and educational days of rehearsals with Dr. Nance and composer in residence Ēriks Ešenvalds, along with plenty of free time to enjoy the beautiful city of Seattle.

The festival will culminate in an evening gala concert on April 18th, with performances by participating ensembles in the first half and ending with a second half featuring the combined ensembles performing selected works by Ēriks Ešenvalds under the direction of Dr. Richard Nance.

Pairing local conducting maestro Dr. Richard Nance and composer Ēriks Ešenvalds is a recipe for an amazing choral experience! Ēriks Ešenvalds is one of the most sought-after composers working today, with a busy commission schedule and performances of his music heard on every continent.

Richard Nance is Director of Choral Activities at Pacific Lutheran University, where he conducts the Choir of the West and Choral Union.

Come perform works with direct input from the composer and under expert direction of a talented and sought-after conductor!


Featuring the music of Jake Runestad

Jake Runestad, composer/conductor

Join composer and conductor Jake Runestad as he leads a festival chorus focused on select pieces from his personal repertoire. Jake Runestad holds a Master’s degree in composition from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University where he studied with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts.

Has has also studied extensively with acclaimed composer Libby Larsen. A native of Rockford, IL, Mr. Runestad is currently based in Minneapolis, MN and his music is published by JR Music.

The Emerald City Sings! Festival will include two fun and educational days of rehearsals with composer Jake Runestad, along with plenty of free time to enjoy the beautiful city of Seattle. We are happy to provide some entertainment packages to interested ensembles!

The festival will culminate in an evening gala concert on April 25th, with performances by participating ensembles in the first half and ending with a second half featuring the combined ensembles performing selected works by Jake Runestad, under his own direction.
