Sechrist Travel has invited choral ensembles and singers to participate in the EMERALD CITY SINGS! Choral Festival scheduled for March 30 – April 3, 2016.

This festival is about making terrific music. Dr. Clausen is inviting singers to join him in rehearsals and performance at historic, St. James Cathedral on April 2, 2016 @ 8:00pm. This historic venue will provide the backdrop for a wonderful and memorable music making experience.

Festival Schedule:

March 30 – all ensembles arrive

March 31 – Festival Choir Rehearsal 2pm-6pm; *Optional individual ensemble clinics with Dr. Clausen

April 1 – Festival Choir Rehearsal 10am-2pm; *Optional individual ensemble clinics with Dr. Clausen; Directors Dinner w/Dr. Clausen

April 2 – Festival Choir Dress Rehearsal and Concert – 8:00pm at St James Cathedral in downtown Seattle, WA

April 3 – all ensembles depart

About René Clausen

Dr. René Clausen (b.1953), Conductor & Composer, is professor of music at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. and has served as conductor of The Concordia Choir since 1986. Additionally, he is the artistic director of the award-winning Concordia Christmas Concerts, which are frequently featured by PBS stations throughout the nation.

Clausen is a renowned composer and arranger, having written over 100 commissioned compositions for organizations such as The King’s Singers, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and American Choral Directors Association. He is also a frequent guest conductor, composer-in-residence, clinician and lecturer. Clausen has conducted large works including Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Brahms’ Requiem and Britten’s War Requiem. On several occasions, Clausen has conducted at Lincoln Center, including his major works MEMORIAL to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere for SATB divisi Choir and Wind Symphony.

Clausen graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, and received a Master of Music Performance and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Illinois, Urbana. In 1996, Clausen was named the Paul J. and Eleanor Christiansen Chair in Choral Music at Concordia. “Life and Breath: Choral Works by René Clausen” is a 13-track recording by the Kansas City Chorale which won two Grammy Awards in 2013, including Best Choral Performance.
